2023 marked the 15th anniversary of the inaugural Exeter Pride committee, while 2024 celebrates the first-ever Exeter Pride event!

To celebrate we have created a retrospective audio-visual archive featuring photos and film donated by the public and other organisations, alongside as new images of items from our ‘memory box’ of physical objects that includes past programmes, merchandise and newspaper cuttings.

We also have eight newly recorded interviews capturing the memories of organisers and attendees of Exeter Pride over the years.

These were woven together, (along with a specially commission work of spoken word) to create ‘15 Years of Protest’ (directed by Simone Einfalt), a short film exploring the history of Exeter pride both as a celebration and a protest movement, and revealing why it is as important today as it was when it began.

We also have a blog which follows every step of the journey of making this project a reality as well as taking in depth looks into aspects of our history such as how the march has changed over the years, or the history of exeter pride and Exeter Phoenix.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to the National Lottery Heritage Fund for their generous grant that allowed us to bring this project to life, and will make sure that all the wealth of our heritage will be preserved for the future.

With Thanks to National Lottery Players
